First Solent announces on bus fare changes – but freezes mTicket prices
First Solent is introducing changes to its adult and child single and return fares in the Fareham and Portsmouth area on Thursday 30 November.
Some adult single tickets will increase by 10p and returns will by 20p. Child singles and return fares will increase by 10p. However, there are no changes to day, week or month ticket prices when purchased either on the bus or through mTickets.
Adult passengers can beat the rise by purchasing their single tickets via the mTickets app. The prices have been frozen on the pack of 10 single tickets, which costs £20.00, remaining at £2.00 per journey.
First Solent wants to encourage its passengers to make the switch from cash to mTickets to help speed up the boarding process. By minimising on bus transactions, it helps the journey to become more punctual and reach its destination quicker.
A real-world experiment comparing boarding with cash to mTicket boarding by the company (see https://youtu.be/mtUGq15dsnU) showed the significant impact using smartphones can have to bus reliability. Using a group of volunteers, it took approximately 10:25 minutes by paying with cash to board and only 2:30 minutes in the second experiment for with the mTicket app.
The mTicket app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Once its downloaded, customers just need to select the ticket they want to buy and provide payment details, including a secure password to protect your account. The ticket will then appear in the ticket wallet in the app and just before you want to travel, activate the ticket and show it to the driver.
