Alex Carter, Managing Director of Buses of Somerset, said
We are currently operating in a difficult market where bus patronage reducing. It is imperative that we look to ensure the long-term sustainability of our network and to do so these changes are imperative. We have liaised with Somerset County Council regarding the withdrawal of certain services and the local authority is exploring alternative options prior to Sunday 4 February.
The new timetables for the services that Buses of Somerset will continue to operate have been specifically modified to reflect the level of passenger use. We have closely monitored the passenger numbers for many months, as well as conducting primary research by travelling the routes, to develop these new schedules. We believe these timetables offer a good level of service so passengers can continue to make their journeys. But with any changes we make, we want to encourage passengers to collect or download copies of the new timetable before making their journeys.
