Buses of Somerset Now Accepts Contactless Payment On All Bus Services In Somerset
All Buses of Somerset services will accept contactless payment from today
Buses of Somerset makes paying for bus travel easier and more convenient
From today, customers in Somerset can pay for their bus journey with contactless. The new payment option makes catching the bus even easier. The introduction of contactless payment follows the roll-out of new ticket machines across its 50-strong Taunton fleet as well as some 40 vehicles that operate in the surrounding area encompassing Bridgwater, Yeovil and Minehead.
Figures from the British Retail Consortium suggests that over half of purchases are now made by card. The body has reported that debit cards have overtaken cash, as more retailers have invested in payments technology to accept cards and "tap and go" contactless payments. This trend is set to follow onto the county’s bus services as local bus operator Buses of Somerset will now offer customers the option to pay for bus travel, up to the value of £30, via a contactless payment on their bank card or smart phone equivalent, Apple and Android Pay.
Contactless increases customers’ payment option, from paying cash to using their bank card or mobile, or smart cards. This will make it easier to catch the bus, as customers will not need to worry about having the right change for their bus fare, or having to make a trip to the cash point to get cash, specifically to pay the bus fare.
Aled Williams, Operations Manager of Buses of Somerset, said:
The introduction of contactless payments across our network of services makes bus travel a convenient, simple and attractive experience for our customers.
As more customers convert to using contactless payment it improves the bus journey experience, because let’s face it, nobody likes to wait in a queue. We are determined to transform the experience for all our customers and I am delighted that technology is now able to deliver so many benefits for our passengers. The combination of our journey planning app, contactless and mTickets, really does make the bus an increasingly attractive option for so many journey needs.
