Changes to bus services in Rotherham
After almost one year of refurbishment works, Rotherham Interchange will re-open to the public on Sunday 3 March and as a result services will now resume operation from Rotherham Interchange and in addition, several other network changes are being implemented.
To reflect changes in customer travel behaviour, services 13, 34, 66 & 111/112 will be renumbered and new services 113, X74, 116, 110 & 136 will be introduced. There have also been minor route changes, including increased bus links to Rotherham General Hospital.
First South Yorkshire is ensuring customers are aware of the changes to Rotherham services ahead of this weekend and is placing staff in the town centre this week to answer any queries.
Speaking about the service changes, Allan Riggall, Commercial Director at First South Yorkshire, said: “We’re pleased to announce that bus services will return to serving Rotherham Interchange, now that the £12m refurbishment works have been completed. Alongside this, we have renumbered some services and made changes to some routes to reflect changes in travel behaviour in the town, with more direct journeys to both Meadowhall and Parkgate as an example. We’d therefore encourage customers to visit our website or to contact customer services with any queries about changes to their usual bus service.”
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) Executive Director, Stephen Edwards, said: “Service changes that are shaped by passengers, wherever possible, help to make sure local bus partnerships can continue to meet community needs. Through the consultation we received feedback from customers and local councillors and this has helped to inform the decisions made by the local bus partnerships. The changes aim to improve the frequency and punctuality of services on busy corridors, and provide better access to places of employment, education and hospitals.”
The refurbishment of Rotherham Interchange is part of RMBC’s Rotherham Town Centre Masterplan, which aims to regenerate the town centre area.
