Southampton Marathon on Sunday 22 April 2018
4 Apr 2018 Southampton OnlyDue to the Southampton Marathon, many of our services across the city will be diverted between Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 April.
Above Bar will be closed for all traffic on both days. The following diversions will be in place:
- Outbound 2 and 3 will divert from Above Bar into Civic Centre Road, Havelock Road and pick up normal route at West Park Road
- Inbound 3 will divert via Havelock Road, Civic Centre Road and Above Bar
- Outbound and inbound 7 will divert via New Road and East Park Terrace
The following services will be diverted on Sunday 22 April only:
Service 2 Millbrook-City Centre (Closure of City Centre)
Until about 1300, Service 2 will terminate at West Quay (instead of Vincent’s Walk). Buses will run from Central Station to West Park Road, Havelock Road, Portland Terrace and Castle Way, terminating at stop “BD” just south of Bargate Street.
Buses return from West Quay stop “BI” (south of Bargate Street) and then operate via Portland Terrace, Havelock Road and return to standard route at Southampton Central Station.
During the diversion, daytime buses will continue to run every 15 minutes
Service 3 Lords Hill-City Centre-Woolston-Thornhill (Closure of City Centre and Itchen Bridge)
Between about 0800 and 1400, service 3 will be split into two sections.
The service to and from Lords Hill will terminate at West Quay (instead of Vincent’s Walk). Buses will run from Central Station to West Park Road, via Havelock Road, Portland Terrace and Castle Way, terminating at stop “BD” just south of Bargate Street. Buses return from West Quay stop “BI” (south of Bargate Street) and then operate via Portland Terrace, Havelock Road and return to standard route at Southampton Central Station.
The service to and from Thornhill will terminate in Woolston Library. Buses will turn using the roundabout at the eastern end of Itchen Bridge. Buses then return to Thornhill using the normal route.
During the diversion, daytime buses between Lordshill and West Quay will continue to run every 15 minutes, and between Thornhill and Woolston every 20 minutes
Service 6 Hamble-Netley-Southampton (Closure of Itchen Bridge)
Between about 0730 and 1400, buses will operate between Hamble and Woolston only, terminating at Woolston Library.
Buses will return to Hamble from Woolston, Portsmouth Road, John’s Road.
Service 6 will continue to operate every hour during the road closures.
Service 7 Townhill/Midanbury-Portswood-City Centre (closure of Cobden Bridge and City Centre)
Until about 1500 buses will operate between Bitterne and Townhill/Midanbury only.
Buses will start at Bitterne (Bullar Road) and then run via Bitterne Road West, Bitterne Shops, West End Road, Mousehole Lane, Midanbury Woodmill Lane, Forest Hill Drive and Townhil Meggeson Avenue. Buses will then return via Meggeson Avenue, Townhill Way, West End Road, Bitterne Shops and Bitterne Road West to terminate at Bullar Road.
During this period buses will run at an half-hourly service.
Service 8 Hedge End-West End-Bitterne-Southampton (closure of Northam Bridge)
Until about 1500, Service 8 will be extended to start or finish at Bitterne Bullar Road. Between Bitterne Shops and Bullar Road, the bus will operate direct via Bitterne Road West.
During this period buses will run an hourly service.
Service 9 Sholing - Bitterne - Woolston - City Centre (closure of City Centre and Itchen Bridge)
Until about 1400 buses will be diverted via Sholing and terminating at Woolston Library.
Buses will operate a normal route from Sholing to Bitterne Shops, and then via Peartree Avenue, Spring Road, Station Road, Portsmouth Road and then terminating at Woolston Library. Buses will turn using the roundabout at the eastern end of Itchen Bridge. Buses will then return to Sholing using the same route.
During this period, daytime buses between Woolston, Bitterne and Sholing will continue to run every two hours.
Service 11 Weston-City Centre (closure of City Centre. Itchen Bridge and Victoria Road)
Until about 1400, the service to and from Weston will terminate at Woolston Library.
Buses will start at Woolston Library, and then run via Portsmouth Road, Wright's Hill, Weston Lane, Wallace Road and Kingsclere Avenue.
During the road closures, daytime buses between Weston and Woolston will run every 20 minutes.
Service X4/X5 Portsmouth/Gosport-Fareham-Locks Heath-Southampton (closure of Itchen Bridge and City Centre)
Until about 1400, buses will operate between Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham Locks Heath and Woolston only, terminating at Woolston Library
Buses will return towards Fareham from Woolston using the roundabout at the eastern end of the Itchen Bridge
Service M1 Southampton-Eastleigh-Marwell Zoo (closure of City Centre)
The first journey of the day, instead of starting at the City Centre will start at Southampton Airport Parkway Station at 1011.
