First Wessex Gets Ready for Summer with New Timetable
Bus services operated by First Wessex will change from Sunday 7 April as the bus operator activates its Summer timetable. The timetable includes more journey opportunities during evenings and weekends to refect the seasonal increase in demand. First also tweaked the running times of Services 1, 2 and 10, which will greatly improve punctuality on these services, and re-introduced the Sunday timetable for services 8, 51 and 53. The company advises customers to check before travelling as journey times may have changed.
Carol Sim, Operations Manager for First Wessex said:
Summer is already upon us – in terms of our timetable at least! Our Dorset operation is very much in tune with the seasonal increase in demand and our summer timetable brings additional journey opportunities during evenings and weekends as well as punctuality improvements. The return of our popular open top bus on Jurassic Coaster Service 501 between Weymouth and Portland Bill we hope will delight many passengers, as will Service 55 between Weymouth and Lulworth, which is perfect for a day out to the Bovington Tank Museum or Monkey World.
The company also made changes to Service 6/6A between Bridport, Crewkerne and Yeovil which were necessary to ensure the loss-making service returns to profitability. Bridport Town Service 7, operated by First under contract to Dorset County Council, has also been amended and the route of Service 10 has been changed to provide a more punctual service between Weymouth, Dorchester and Poundbury Mansell Square. Two stops no longer served by Service 10 will still have a contracted bus service that runs between Poundbury and Dorchester town centre.
