More detail on the changes
We’ve listened to customers and made some changes to our services to Henwick Park, so there are more buses operating throughout the year – we’ll be operating up to every 20 minutes during the day.
All buses will depart from the same stand in Crowngate bus station to make it easy to find your bus.
If you’re travelling to/from Henwick Park, your routes will vary depending on whether the University is open - you’ll need route 31U which will leave the city centre via Hylton Road. During University vacations, it’s route 31A which operates on Comer Road & Laugherne Road. We'll publish University term dates on our website.
For Comer Road & Laugherne Road, you’ll need route 31 during University Term times and route 31A during University vacations.
Why are there different services to the area?
There are two reasons why we need to provide different routes to the University and Henwick Park areas. Firstly, to ensure we can provide large buses to cope with student numbers Secondly, we have to run smaller buses to comply with weight restrictions on the Comer Road Bridge. Why do the routes change depending on whether the University is open? Our routes vary to ensure we can operate big enough buses to provide enough capacity; unfortunately we cannot run bigger vehicles over Comer Road bridge due to weight restrictions so operate via Hylton Road during University term times where there are more people travelling.
