Customer encouraged to switch to mobile bus tickets
First York has announced that some of its fares will be changing from Sunday 15th July and is encouraging customers to switch to mTickets to help save money.
First York has frozen the price of its most popular mTickets to encourage customers to switch to buying tickets via the First Bus mTickets app, as this will help customers to save money and will also help to speed up boarding times. For example, the FirstWeek ticket will be priced at £17 if purchased from the driver, but the price will remain at £14 if purchased in advance via the mTickets app.
The business has also frozen the price of all child fares and has made all Park & Ride tickets available on the app. All single fares have been frozen and customers can continue to benefit from even cheaper single fares if they opt for the multi-trip mTicket option. Use of mTickets is exceeding expectations with year-on-year growth at over 72 per cent across all of First Bus. The business is confident that journey times will improve if more customers switched to mTickets, as research by First Bus has highlighted that boarding times would be 75 per cent faster.
Marc Bichtemann, Managing Director at First York, said: “We still have many customers who choose to pay with cash, which often results in our drivers having to hand out lots of change, which slows down the bus boarding times and can result in delays to bus services. Travel by bus still offers great value for money, but in a bid to encourage more customers to switch from paying with cash to mTickets, we have decided to freeze prices for most tickets purchased via the mTickets app.
“The combination of journey planning, free wi-fi, real time information, contactless and mTickets, really does make the bus an increasingly attractive option for so many journey needs and if more customers converted to using mTickets or contactless, then this would have a huge impact on boarding times and would help us in the battle to speed up the bus.”
