First York celebrates heritage
York’s largest bus operator is honouring past and present colleagues with a new bus, painted in the livery of ‘Rider York’.
First York has rebranded one of its vehicles ‘Rider York’, to acknowledge the business’s heritage. The vehicle includes a message on the side of the vehicle to honour staff, which reads; “Dedicated to team members of Rider York and First York, past and present”.
In 1994 the Rider York business was included in the sale of the Yorkshire Rider business to Badgerline. Following Badgerline merging with GRT Group, First Bus was formed in 1995 and Rider York was rebranded as First York.
Speaking about the new vehicle, Marc Bichtemann, Managing Director of First York, said: “We have a team of 250 bus drivers, supervisors and office staff who all work tirelessly to operate the award-winning York Park & Ride scheme and bus routes in and around York, safely transporting thousands of commuters and visitors every day. We still employ several colleagues who worked for the business when it was Rider York and we therefore wanted to acknowledge our business heritage and therefore decided to bring this bus livery, back into the city.”
