First Leicester buses are going green!

First Bus are focused on becoming a leader in the transition to a low-carbon future and are committed to operating a UK-wide zero-emission bus fleet by 2035.

A total of £48m has been invested so far on the Leicester project, through First Bus investment and DfT funding in partnership with Leicester City Council.

The Leicester depot is being completely transformed and will house the latest state-of-the art technology.  462 solar panels have been installed on the roof which is expected to generate 55% of the building’s electricity requirements. Chargers have been installed which will simultaneously charge up to 74 electric buses.

The First Leicester fleet will consist of 68 single-deck Electroliner Kite Electric buses.  These buses will save over 60,000 tons of carbon emissions over their lifetime!

Further funding of 2.97m has been secured towards the purchase of 18 double-deck electric buses.

All 86 electric buses will be in operation by March 2024.
